What a tier can do
An offer has tiers. The buyer picks one. A tier has a quantity, a discount and a name.
A tier is a quantity break or a set, and any tier can give free gifts:
- A quantity break: the buyer takes more of the product and saves, like "Buy 2, save 10%". The product's variants count together.
- Other products: a set of this product and up to 5 other products you choose, each with its own quantity, from 1 to 99. The buyer takes them all together. Each product has its own discount, this one too: full price, a percent off, an amount off each, or a set price each, like the board at 10% off and the wax at half price. The set costs what its products cost together. Press "Add other products" and choose them in Shopify's list: each product you add starts at 10% off, and "Remove" beside a product takes it out. This product cannot be one of them: raise the tier's Quantity instead. A product can be in a set once. When a cart holds the products of two sets, the checkout takes the set that saves the buyer the most first, then chooses the next the same way. If two sets of one offer save the same, the one higher in its list of tiers goes first. If two sets of two offers save the same, the one whose product comes first in the cart goes first.
- Free gifts: the buyer gets products free in this tier, up to 5 of them, each with its own quantity, from 1 to 99, like "Buy 2 shirts, get 2 pairs of socks free". They are real products in your store, so their stock goes down. Press "Add free gifts" and choose them in Shopify's list. "Choose gifts" opens the list again with the tier's gifts ticked, to add, change or take away; "Remove" beside a gift takes it out. A gift can be in a tier once: its quantity says how many. The checkout makes each gift free up to its quantity, and charges for more. The buyer gets the first variant of a gift that is in stock.
The discount of a tier is one of these: Percent off, Amount off each item, Amount off the tier (like Buy 3, save $10: the amount comes off the tier's whole price once, and a buyer who takes more items saves the same for each one more), Set price for the tier, Buy X, get Y, or No discount. It comes off the total of the tier once, to the cent. In a set, each product's discount comes off that product's items once instead. The product page shows the same price the checkout charges. A buyer who pays in another currency gets the same value in theirs.
Buy X, get Y makes "Buy 2, get 1 free": type 2 in Buy and 1 in Get. Under "Price of the Get items", choose Free, or Percent off for a deal like "Buy 1, get 1 at 50% off". The cheapest items are the ones the buyer gets. For more items, every whole group of Buy and Get gets its Get items: on Buy 2, get 1 free, 6 items get 2 free. Items left over after the whole groups count again, as the biggest tier they reach, in the cart as on the page: with Buy 2, get 1 free and Buy 3, get 2 free, 9 items get 3 free (2 from the first 5, and 1 from the 4 left). You can add several, like Buy 2, get 1 and Buy 3, get 2.
A tier can have a picture beside its name. In the tier's "Picture" field choose "A picture of the product" (one of the product's own pictures, which you pick) or "A picture from your computer" (a JPG, PNG, GIF or WebP up to 5 MB). On an offer for a collection or for all products, each product shows its own first picture. A picture from your computer is saved in your store's Files, in a file that starts with weird-bundles-. It stays there if you delete the offer. How big the pictures are and how round their corners are, you choose on the Design page.
A free gift can stay in the bigger tiers. Under the gift, switch on "Bigger tiers keep this gift". Then every tier with more items gives that gift too, on top of its own gifts: if Buy 2 gives a sticker (kept) and Buy 3 gives a poster, Buy 3 gives both. If two tiers give the same gift, the buyer gets the bigger quantity of it, not both added up. Under the tier the buyer has chosen, the page shows the gifts a bigger tier would add, with a padlock and the name of the tier that gives them, so the buyer sees what a bigger tier unlocks. A gift that is sold out is not shown and not added to the cart. A set can have free gifts too: the buyer gets them free when the cart holds the whole set, and pays for them when it does not. When two sets want the same product, the set the checkout takes gives its gifts. A set's gift cannot be one of the set's own products. Gifts that smaller tiers keep do not reach a set, and a set's gifts stay with it.
The gifts come once, with the tier the cart reaches. Under the tiers, the switch "Give the gifts again for each full tier" changes that, and it is off at the start. On, each whole group of a tier's items gets the tier's gifts again: 6 items on "Buy 2, get a gift" get 3 gifts, and each whole set in the cart gets its gifts. With Buy X, get Y, the items left over get the gifts of the tier they reach. The page adds the gifts a buyer's items earn when the quantity box changes the count, as many as your stock holds. When a buyer raises the quantity later, in the cart, no gift is added, because the checkout cannot add a line; but the gifts the buyer adds there are free, up to what the items earn. When a buyer lowers the quantity in the cart, the gifts stay in the cart, and the ones the items no longer earn are charged.
A tier can give free shipping. Switch on "Free shipping" in the tier. From that tier up, every tier with more items gives it too, so a buyer who takes more keeps it: if Buy 3 gives free shipping, Buy 5 does as well. A tier with other products gives it to itself only. Buyers see it on the product page, in the tier, and in checkout, where the shipping rates show and the free ones cost nothing, named with the tier's name. Only shipping rates are made free, never pickup or local delivery. Under "Free shipping" you can type the dearest rate to make free, like 5.00: a dearer rate, like express, is still charged. Leave it empty to make every shipping rate free. The amount is in your store's currency, and buyers in another currency get its worth in theirs. On an offer for a collection or for all products, free shipping cannot start at 1 item, because it would make shipping free on every order. A shipping tier alone is enough: it does not need a discount or a gift.
When your stock cannot fill a tier, the tier shows "Sold out" and cannot be chosen: for example Buy 3 when 2 of the variant the buyer chose are left. If the tier you marked to be chosen first is sold out, the next smaller tier is chosen. This works for a variant whose stock Shopify counts and does not sell past (Products, "Track quantity" on and "Continue selling when out of stock" off); a variant that can be sold out of stock is never marked. A tier with another product that is sold out is marked too. The page never shows your stock: only whether it is enough for the offer's biggest tier, or, when buyers can change the quantity, for up to 999 items.
An offer can have up to 20 tiers, and a tier up to 999 items. Two tiers cannot have the same quantity.
"Let buyers pick a variant for each item", under the tiers, is on to start with: the chosen tier has a size or color picker for each of its items, so a buyer can take two reds and a blue. Off, every item is the size or color chosen on the page; turn it off for tiers of many items, where a picker for each would be a long list. When buyers change the quantity past the tier, the items past it are the size or color chosen on the page.
"Let buyers change the quantity", under the tiers, gives the chosen tier a − and + box. A buyer can take more items than the tier. A percent, an amount or a set price covers them all: with Buy 3, save 15%, four waxes are 15% off too. Buy X, get Y gives its Get items for each whole group of Buy and Get, and the items left over count again as the biggest tier they reach, as above. Counting up to a bigger tier chooses it, and counting down under a tier chooses the smaller one. Your theme's own quantity box follows, and the widget follows your theme's box when a buyer changes that one. The box stops at what your stock holds, when Shopify counts it. A tier with other products has no box.
An offer with two tiers or more opens with every tier folded to one line: its name, how many items it takes and what comes off, like "Buy 2, save 10% · 2 items · 10% off". Press "Open" on a tier to change it, and "Close" to fold it again. What you changed in a folded tier is kept, and the line follows it. A tier you add opens. A tier that has a problem when you save or publish opens by itself, with the problem on its field.
